KUALA LUMPUR – The nascent manifestation of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) alumni (PAUiTM) website and Facebook page saw nothing less than a phenomenal spike in hits, ‘likes’ and support on Wednesday.
Further deluge of support and a scattering of disgruntled diatribes had helped the social media platform and website to move high up into the positive.
A post of an article by Utusan Malaysia editor, Datuk Zaini Hassan, who is also the President of PAUiTM, saw views spiralling upwards to more than 30,000 in just three hours, while hits rapidly rose from 26,000 to 27,000.
The article, ‘Kenapa Ganggu UiTM, Kenapa Tidak SJKC’ (Why Disturb UiTM, Why Not SJKC) was penned in defence of the sanctity of UiTM as among the bastions of Malay higher education.
The article was directed at UiTM alumnae and DAP candidate for the Teluk Intan Parliamentary By-Election, Dyana Sofya, who had earlier questioned the position of UiTM as the protected province of tertiary education for Bumiputeras.
Response in support of the article and UiTM came from alumnus and alumnae from all over the world, including those at Harvard University, University of Newcastle Australia, University of Kahrtoum, and University of Leeds, among others.
As at the time of writing, the PAUiTM website and Facebook page is still receiving high hits
